Hotels in Val d’Isère

The original and traditional way to holiday, Val d'Isère boasts close to thirty hotels of all standards, from the small, family-run places full of charm to some of the finest luxury hotels in the Alps, rivalling some of the best in Paris, London or New York – with prices to match!

Options are generally bed and breakfast or half board (you'll more than likely have lunch on the mountain). With half board you don't have to budget for the cost of dinner out every evening, but bed and breakfast does give you more flexibility if you're likely to want to try some of the many local restaurants.

Some hotels are very family friendly while others, especially at the higher end of the market, can be quite formal and therefore not necessarily ideal for small children.

Among the affordable and family-friendly options, the Crêtes Blanches, Everest, Hôtel Val d'Isère and Galise are all very central and conveniently located.

The Avancher is a little further out but is also very popular and close to both the slopes and bus stops in either direction.

Unfortunately, both the Kandahar Hotel and the Savoyarde Hotel, which were popular and affordable options for decades, have now closed and are being redeveloped.

For a little more luxury, the Avenue Lodge in the main street has a lovely spa area and indoor pool, as do the Yule, the new Mont Blanc hotel and the recently renovated Experimental Chalet (called a chalet but it's a large hotel!) opposite the post office.

At the top end of the scale, Val will boast no fewer than seven five-star hotels for the 2026/27 winter season (assuming the new Christiania opens on time!).

Of these we particularly like the Yule, literally three metres from the snow front in the centre of town, and the K2 Chogori, which replaces the iconic though very run down Hotel Moris and is part of the K2 Collections group based in Courchevel.

In addition to the hotels of all levels open to the general public, there are also still a few – actually only a very few – "chalet hotels" run by tour operators and exclusive to their own clients. YSE have the Chardon, which is popular with return clients.

In particular, they have a few single rooms which are great for people travelling alone – no single supplement! At the other end of the main street, Neilson have the Savoie and the Ducs de Savoie which is more family friendly and has a kids' club, in the town centre as well as the Tovière down in La Daille.

These chalet hotels are ideal for people who like the convenience and cost savings of a package holiday and the "chalet board" option, but who either have more people in their group than a smaller chalet would accommodate or not enough people to fill one.

In peak periods, most hotel bookings are for Saturday-to-Saturday stays, although sometimes, particularly in quieter periods and closer to the time, hotels will also accept bookings for other arrival days or shorter stays.

This is becoming much more common, especially among the three and four-star hotels, and, combined with the large number of affordable and convenient shared transfer options from our local airports, makes a long weekend or short midweek break in Val d'Isère much more practical.
