In these days of 21st-century transport and low-cost flights, it's a whole lot easier than it used to be to get to Val d'Isère, no matter where in the world you're travelling from or what day of the week you want to arrive.

Nowadays you can get from the centre of London to Val d'Isère in little more than six hours if you plan it properly. That has opened up many more opportunities, not just for the traditional week-long ski holiday, but for long weekends and short breaks as well.

What the best option is, of course, depends on a whole range of factors, from where you're travelling from and when you're coming, to how many are in your group, how much luggage you have and what your budget is.

One thing's for sure though – once you come through the last tunnel, arrive at your accommodation and settle in for your holiday, the journey will have been well worth it.
