Self-Catering Accomodation

in Val d’isère

French self-catering flats have historically had a bit of a bad reputation, probably justly deserved at one stage, as shoe-boxes cramming as many people as possible into ugly, 70s-style buildings – but not anymore.

The days of "pile 'em in and cram 'em high" are long gone, and these days there are some pretty special self-catering properties in Val d'Isère that rival the top chalets and five-star hotels.

There are also plenty of mid-range apartments and chalets throughout the resort at very reasonable prices.

The big advantages of a self-catering holiday are privacy, flexibility and freedom. You can also find that the cost of self-catered accommodation is considerably less than a hotel or chalet holiday of the same standard, leaving you with plenty in the budget to cook in, eat out or do a bit of both.

On the downside, there's no one to make the beds or clean the bathroom apart from yourself, and the costs can soon escalate if you decide to eat in the best restaurants every evening.

But if you like the privacy and flexibility of "self" without too much of the "catering" bit, there are plenty of great-value restaurants in town to suit all tastes. You can also book a private chef for part or all of your holiday, have takeaway delivered to your door, or ask your landlord or accommodation agency to arrange additional services such as a cleaner during your stay.

For luxury self-catered chalets and apartments, with the option of pretty much every extra you can think of, we particularly recommend Hip Hideouts and Val d'Isère Location.

For more traditional self-catering without too many frills, you won't go wrong with Lesley Galloway (yet another Scot!) and her team at the Mountain Collection agency in the main street.
