01. Eating & Drinking in Val d’isère

Eating & Drinking in Val d’isère

For many people, a ski holiday isn't just about the skiing.

It's about sitting on a sunny mountain terrace with a glass of wine and a spectacular view. It's about warming up with a steaming bowl of onion soup after skiing in a white-out, sharing a fondue with friends, discovering a fantastic little restaurant you'd never have found on your own, or dancing in your ski boots at après before you've even made it back down to the village.

Whatever your idea of the perfect ski holiday, food and drink are a huge part of the experience.

And whatever your idea of the perfect food and drinkn Val d'Isère has something for just about everyone.

Grab a sandwich and be back on the lift ten minutes later if you're determined to squeeze every last run out of the day. Or linger over a three-hour lunch at one of the finest mountain restaurants in the Alps, watching the world ski past from a sun-drenched terrace.

Back in the village you'll find everything from cosy Savoyard restaurants serving traditional Alpine favourites to Michelin-starred dining, lively pubs, stylish cocktail bars, excellent cafés and enough different cuisines to eat somewhere new every night of your holiday.

And then there's après ski. In Val d'Isère it isn't just a quick drink after skiing—it's part of the culture. Whether that's dancing on a table at Cocos or the Danois or sitting by the fire with a glass of wine is entirely up to you.

So whether you're wondering where to have lunch on the mountain, which Savoyard dishes are actually worth trying, where to find a really good steak, or simply where to go for a drink after skiing, hopefully we'll be able to point you in the right direction. And perhaps introduce you to a few places you might otherwise have walked straight past.

After more than 35 years living here, we've done plenty of research on your behalf!

01. Food on the mountain

For some people, lunch is every bit as important as the skiing. For others it's simply a quick refuelling stop before heading straight back onto the slopes. The good news is that Val d'Isère caters brilliantly for both.
