06. Le Laisinant

Le Laisinant is a small hamlet just a couple of hundred metres beyond the edge of the town in the Fornet direction – far enough for you to feel you're away from it all, and yet close enough to walk to the town centre in 15 or 20 minutes.

The main part of Laisinant is old and the few newer buildings that have been added are traditional in their architecture, so the place has plenty of olde worlde charm.

Sadly, the Michelin-starred Becca restaurant in Laisinant closed down several years ago, so for eating or drinking (or anything else really) you do have to go into the town centre. However, there's a bus stop right at the bottom of the road, so it's pretty easy to hop on a bus.

Laisinant is a great place to access the slopes first thing in the morning, served by its own lift, the Laisinant Express, which hardly ever has anyone on it.

Even in the very busiest weeks, you're more or less guaranteed to walk straight onto the lift.

At the end of the day you can ski right back to Laisinant down the L – a great fun gully that gives you the feeling of being pretty much away from it all.

There's also Mattis, but that's one of our favourite quiet places to ski on a busy day, so we're not going to tell you too much about that one.
