Val d'Isère FAQ'S

  • WHERE DO I GO FOR LOST PROPERTY?

Unfortunately there’s no one central place for lost property so it kind of depends where you lost it.

If you lost something on a lift try the main lift pass office under the Olympique. Lost on the piste? Our best bet is the Piste Security Office on the slopes more or less directly behind our Slopeside shop at Rond Point des Pistes. For something left on the bus try the bus garage beside the last roundabout in La Daille, Or for something lost in town, ask at the Tourist Office, Gendarmerie or Police Municipale

  • WHAT TIME DO THE LIFTS OPEN AND CLOSE?

The Olympique, Solaise, Funival and Fornet cable car open at 8.45 with most of the other lifts opening at or just after 9am.

In the evening the lifts close generally between 430 and 5 with the furthest out ones closing earliest.

  • WHEN DOES THE SEASON START AND FINISH?

For the 2026 season the opening date is 28th November 2026 and the closing date is 2nd May 2027.

  • WHERE CAN I GET ACCURATE INFORMATION ON LIFT AND PISTE OPENINGS?

What’s open and what’s closed depends on the daily conditions and sometimes opening is delayed while areas are made safe. Download the Val d’Isere App for up to date information.

  • HOW DO THE BUSSES WORK?

The busses are free and run every few minutes during the day, slightly less frequently early and late.

You don’t need to show your lift pass so non-skiers can use the busses free too.

There are 3 “lines”, all stopping at Rond Point des Pistes (just across from our Slopeside shop) where you can easily access the slopes or swap busses.

The red line runs between La Daille and Le Fornet in both directions.

The yellow line follows a loop along the main street up to the back road past the pool to the bridge at Joseray then back through the tunnel to the main street.

The blue line serves the outlying areas of Chatelard and Leggetaz.

  • WHERE CAN I PARK?

There is virtually no free parking in Val d'Isère.

For long term you need to use one of the covered or uncovered car parks operated by Q Park. Especially at busy times we recommend you book though you can just drive in, get a ticket and pay on exit if – and it’s a big if at busy times – there are spaces free.

    Parking Val d'Isère - link

For short term parking there are a few spaces along the main street where you can park for up to an hour, you need to display a blue timed parking disc showing when you arrived, you can get these on Amazon etc.

  • WHERE IS THE POLICE STATION?

There are 2 types of “police” – the Police Municipal are mainly traffic police and the Gendarmes are traditional police (but they are part of the military and carry guns!). You will need the Police Municipal if your car is towed away and the Gendarmes if your skis are stolen.

The Police Municipal is just down from the main town centre towards La Daille, a couple of hundred metres before the petrol station on the other side of the road. If you are getting the bus get off at the stop before the medical centre if you are going out of town or the one after the medical centre on the way in from La Daille.

The Gendarmerie is at the top end of town in the Le Fornet direction, just before the last roundabout. Get off the bus at the stop just after the roundabout.

  • WHAT DO I DO IF SOMEONE IS INJURED?

If one of your group is injured and needs help to get off the mountain, either call Pïste Security (the number is on the back of your lift pass) or flag down a passing pisteur or ski instructor who will call for help.

While you are waiting for help to arrive, cross skis uphill from the victim so no-one skis into them. The pisteurs will decide if the injured person can be evacuated by bloodwagon (stetcher on skis) in which case they will probably then be taken by ambulance to Medival.

For more serious injuries the victim may be helicoptered off the slopes and taken straight to hospital, usually in Bourg Saint Maurice.

  • Stuck In Tignes ?

What if you miss the last lift back from Tignes to Val?

No need to panic, there’s a free bus service known as the Train Violet between Val ‘Isère and Tignes and the last bus isn’t until 6.30 pm. It leaves from the bus stop by the roundabout in Tignes 1800 so jump on the Tignes 1800 shuttle bus at the main stop in Le Lac and get off in 1800 to make the connection.

Allow 20 minutes from Le Lac to 1800, obviously it will take you longer if you have to get from Val Claret to Le Lac first. At the Val end, the Train Violet takes you to the main bus stop in La Daille then just jump onto the normal Train Rouge to get into town.

  • What If I Lose My Lift Pass?

Make sure you keep your receipt when you buy your pass – or even better keep a photo on your phone.

If you lose the pass, just present the proof of purchase at the lift pass office and for an admin fee of 10 Euros they’ll sort you out with a new pass right away.

  • Help, My Skis Have Gone Missing

It’s nearly always an honest mistake that sorts itself out. Take a breath and have another coffee—the person may soon realise and bring them back.

Meanwhile, look for similar skis nearby, they may be from a different hire shop. Note or photograph their serial number (usually on the barcode sticker) and hire shop.

Don’t take anyone else’s skis, even if you suspect they have yours. They could belong to an innocent third party and, even if your boots fit, the binding release settings are adjusted for someone else, making them dangerous for you to use.

You can phone the shop supplying the “suspect” skis. They’re used to this and should be able to trace their client through the serial number and ask them to return yours if they have them.

If that doesn’t resolve things, head to the nearest lift that takes pedestrians and return to your hire shop. They should help sort it out and provide replacement skis so you can keep enjoying your holiday.
