Areas of Val d’isère

04. Rond Point & Beyond

The Rond Point des Pistes area is just across the nursery slopes from the main town centre, a three-minute walk across the piste or a 30-second bus ride through the tunnel. This is where every bus from everywhere else in town comes and turns round, so it’s super-accessible.

Rond Point is also just by the edge of the nursery slopes and the main Solaise and Bellevarde lifts, so many people choose to start their day here and ski down to the lifts rather than starting in the town centre and walking up.

In the immediate Rond Point area you’ll find our satellite shop, Snowberry Slopeside, and a small supermarket which is very handy.

La Gourmandine is a good traditional-style restaurant right by the bus stop and is popular with instructors as a meeting point in the morning.

This is also where you’ll find Cocorico – Val d’Isère’s famous (or is it infamous?) après ski venue. Everyone needs to visit Cocorico at least once during their stay and many people end up there every night when they get off the slopes.

Top tip –

Drop your skis off for overnight storage at Snowberry Slopeside before you head to Coco’s then you don’t have to worry about someone else taking them by mistake - it happens all the time!

Beyond the immediate Rond Point area, the road splits at the bridge to Joseray and Châtelard in one direction and up the Legettaz road past Club Med in the other. In the last five years or so there has been an enormous amount of development in these areas and there are now some stunningly beautiful chalets and apartments – with prices to match – and more still in the pipeline.

On the Legettaz side, most of the accommodation is very close to the pistes or even ski-in, ski-out, while you can ski back to Joseray on the other side of the valley at the end of the day via a not too difficult red variation of the famous Face piste.

One slight drawback of staying in this area is that although the main buses run very regularly from early in the morning until late at night between the Rond Point and the main town, the satellite bus covering Legettaz, Joseray and Châtelard runs a bit less often and doesn’t start as early in the morning or run as late at night.

However, a lot of the accommodation in this area, especially the higher-end stuff, has a courtesy transport service available, so if you’re lucky you won’t need to worry about bus timetables at all.
