Areas of Val d’isère

03. The Town Centre

Whereas many ski resorts are quite spread out and you may find your “town centre” chalet is a long way up a steep hill from anywhere you want to be, Val d’Isère is different.

The lie of the land – a long, narrow valley with steep sides – means that everything is pretty close to the main street and nothing in the main part of Val d’Isère is really more than about 10 minutes’ walk from the centre of it all. And what’s more, it’s all on the flat.

Here you’ll find everything you need for your holiday, from easy access to the pistes and ski area to an amazing swimming pool and sports complex, ice rink, bars and restaurants, shops of all sorts, in-street entertainment and all of the magic of a mountain town in winter.

The main buzz of the town happens between the two roundabouts at the tourist office and supermarket where you’ll also find our flagship store, Snowberry Streetside.

This is where you will find most of the resort’s eating and drinking with restaurants offering everything from good value honest food at honest prices to haute cuisine; bars for mad après ski or a quiet drink; and of course, a lot of Val d’Isère’s famous nightlife.

There are 2 supermarkets. The one actually on the main street by the roundabout is cheaper. The one just off the main street on the way to the slopes is a bit more expensive but has much nicer fresh fruit and veg, a proper butcher’s counter and so on.

And there’s plenty of accommodation in the town centre as well, from both new and traditional five-star hotels and some of the most luxurious chalets anywhere in France to more basic and affordable self-catering options right in the middle of the action.
