Tignes – Sunny Side

The Sunny Side is probably the biggest sector in Tignes and it's certainly very aptly named. With wide, open, sunny pistes, it's perfect for everyone from confident intermediates upwards and offers some of the nicest cruising anywhere in the ski area.

It's also a popular round-trip route ("Round-the-World") for seasonnaires from Val d'Isère when they have a few hours off work - down to Val Claret, round the Sunny Side to Le Lac, up the Tovière bubble, over the top of the ridge and back down to work.

Take the Tichot chair from the bottom of Val Claret then head round on wide, open, cruisy pistes to the Aiguille Percée lift for one of the best photo stops in the whole ski area inside the famous Eye of the Needle.

If you're in a rush there are plenty of routes back down from here to Le Lac but, if you still have time, why not head right down to Brév? There are two or three restaurants at the bottom where you can grab some lunch before heading back up.

Heading

The Sunny Side is also home to the famous "Chair to Nowhere", more properly known as the Col de Ves. This is a long, slow, cold lift which seems pretty pointless as the only run down is a not-very-interesting (and not very well groomed) black run. However, the real point of the "Chair to Nowhere" is to access all of the off-piste in the huge bowl on the left of the lift.

The Col du Palet drag also marks the traditional start of the famous Tarentaise Tour. It's a fantastic day out with a guide, especially for stronger skiers who'll really appreciate some of the classic descents along the route.

Closer to home, there's some relatively easy off-piste in the Chardonnet Bowl but make sure you don't mess it up because everyone on the lift can see you!
